昭和天皇の大礼が京都で行われたのを記念して、昭和4（1929）年に竣工しました。鉄筋コンクリート造で高さは24.4m。設計は京都府技師の阪谷良之進で、施工は大林組。当時京都帝大教授だった建築家武田五一が顧問をつとめています。京都・岡崎のランドマークとして広く知られ、愛されています。

The Torii Gate to Heian-shrine　

In commemoration of a state ceremony which was held for the Showa Emperor in Kyoto, this big archway has completed in 1929. This was made of reinforced concrete and is 24. 4 meters high. Sakatani Ryonoshin, who was an engineer in the Kyoto prefectural government, designed it and Obayashi corporation undertaked it’s construction. The architect, Takeda Goichi, who was professor in former imperial university, advised it. The big archway is widely known and has been loved as the landmark in Okazaki, Kyoto.
