明治32（1899）年に完成した武徳殿は、平安京を創建した桓武天皇が大極殿の北西に武徳殿を建てた故事にちなんで、大日本武徳会がこの場所に建設したもの。今も武道の聖地と仰がれます。現在は京都市武道センターとして武道大会を始めさまざまな用途に利用されています。

he Old Martial Arts Practice Hall (Kyoto City Budo Center) 

This hall was completed in 1899 and was built in this place by Great Japan Federation of Martial Arts after the historical fact that Emperor Kanmu who founded Heian-kyo built the martial arts practice hall in the northwest of the council hall in the imperial palace. It is still honored as the holy place of martial arts. At present, as Kyoto City Budo Center, it is used for various purposes including martial arts competition.
