平安神宮の神苑は、社殿の建物を囲んで、東・中・西・南の四つの庭に分かれ、約一万坪あまりの広大な庭園となっています。この内、中神苑（蒼龍池）・西神苑（白虎池）の二苑は明治28（1895）年、東神苑は大正5（1916）年に、いずれも当時のカリスマ庭師“植治”こと小川治兵衛により作庭され、琵琶湖疏水が使われています。昭和50（1975）年に国の名勝に指定されています。

The Garden of Heian Shrine

The garden of Heian shrine is about 33,000㎡ , a vast garden. It surround the shrine main building, and divide into 4 gardens, east, middle, west, and south area. One of them, in 1895 Nakajinen(Souryuike) , Saizinnen (Hakuryuike) , and in 1916 Toenji are made by a charisma 'Uezi', Ogawa Zibhe. And they are used water of Biwa Lake. It was designated as national place of scenic beauty in 1975.
